"So You Think You Can Dance" TV show

9:00 pm PST

Fox TV station in your area
[map]

Well, my career just got a much-appreciated surprise gift...
"RENO GIRL MAKES GOOD!"

I was just informed Tuesday July 17 (while on vacation in Hawaii) that my 2000 recording of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" (from my CD "By Request") has been licensed for the opening group dance song featured this Thursday, July 19th on the "Results" TV show of "SO YOU THINK YOU CAN
DANCE!" It airs nationally (at 9:00 pm PST) on Fox TV stations and I hope you can catch it - it's the first song!

Here is the link to the website for "So You Think You Can Dance"...
http://www.fox.com/dance/
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"So You Think You Can Dance" (Dick Clark Productions) is a search
competition for the most talented young dancers from all over the country who wish to make it in the dance business. Entering its third season this summer on FOX, the hot series from the producers of "AMERICAN IDOL" and "American Bandstand" is hosted by Cat Deeley, one of the UK's top television personalities and a correspondent for "The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Good Morning America." Dancers skilled in everything from the "street" styles of hip-hop, krumping
and popping to "the best of ballroom" --salsa, quickstep, jive, swing, waltz, and more -- compete to be named America's Favorite
Dancer in front of a live audience and over 2.5 million TV viewers!
So how did they happen to choose me?...
One of the choreographers, Jean Marc, was hoping to use Bette Midler's version of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" this week for a big
swing dance production, but because she was on vacation and unable to
respond to the quick request, Jean Marc searched iTunes for another
version and discovered mine. I'm so thrilled that he chose it over so many others to be used for their hot new TV show. It will be edited in length for broadcast, but you can listen to it in its entirety right
now on my website...
http://camithompson.com/music.html
My recording of "Boogie Woogie" features wonderful musicians I have been playing with for many years, some for decades: Tony Savage on drums, Richard Ray on bass, Peter Supersano on piano, Frank Falcioni on guitar. My friend Remmel Wilson let me use his horn arrangement,
which showcases the trumpet stylings of Matt Nygren, with Paul Lenz
(trumpet), Rich Lewis (trombone) and Remmel Wilson and Brian Landruss
on saxes. Thanks for the great notes, guys!!!
That's my voice overdubbed with up to 4 tracks of harmony which I arranged. We recorded it in my hometown Reno at IMIRAGE SOUND LAB, the awesome studio of recording genius "Too Tall" Tom Gordon!
http://www.myspace.com/imiragesoundlab
Remmel Wilson's CD can be found here:
http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/baronvonremmel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I feel truly grateful to be a music-maker, and I thank the Universe for my abundant Blessings!!!!
Thanks to you all for listening!
"Nights with Lady Day" Tribute to Billie Holiday - 9:15 to midnght
1204 Middlefield Road
Redwood City CA 94063
(415) 225-8570 [map]
Price: $15 per person
Cami joins The Max Perkoff Sextet for a unique evening celebrating the voice and music of the great Lady Day, Miss Billie Holiday.
Trombonist/composer/musical director Max Perkoff is a fan of Lady Day. "Her swing, her music, her genius" inspired Perkoff to form the jazz sextet "Nights With Lady Day" which exclusively performs Miss Holiday's complete recorded repertoire. What makes this group a real standout is the fact that it is an all instrumental ensemble with Perkoff's muted trombone often working as the songstress to deliver the lyric. Max will share the task with Cami, who has been a life-long fan of the first lady of vocal jazz.
Swing Central has grown to be the Swing dance home for many Bay Area dancers. Started in 1998 by world renowned Rob and Diane Van Haaren at the beautiful and historic Foresters Hall of America building in Redwood City, Swing Central continues to spread the infectious love for Lindy Hop to an ever growing swing community. Swing dancers of all levels are welcome at this event.
